    SONA Mentor Program

The Queensland Chapter established the Student Mentor Scheme to enable our student members to connect with practicing architects. The Student Mentoring Program is designed to offer students an insight into working in an architectural practice, provide an understanding of the current workforce expectations and to help bridge the gap between what is covered in the university syllabus and in real life practice.

    Information for Mentors

To take part in the program mentors must be registered architects practicing in Queensland or have a minimum of four years’ post-graduate architectural experience and be current members of the Australian Institute of Architects based in either Brisbane or the Gold Coast.

If you would like to be involved in the program simply complete and return the Mentor Application form to Madelynn at the QLD Chapter. Mentors are expected to attend the Mentor Launch night and are invited to make a short presentation. After the Launch Night students and mentors will be matched and encouraged to set up their first meeting within the following 2 weeks, it is then up to the mentor and students to continue to facilitate their own meetings.

Architects who take part in the Student Mentor Program can earn 1 formal CPD point per meeting with the student group. To claim a formal point you must record which AACA competency standards were discussed in the meeting: Design, Documentation, Project Management and Practice Management. To keep accurate records it is recommended to use the meeting agenda page here to record your meetings.
