The Australian Institute of Architects is actively involved at every level of architectural education and training, including developing resources for primary and secondary school teachers, accrediting schools of architecture, preparing graduates for the Architectural Practice Exam and assisting practicing architects in their continuing professional development.

Abstract
Significant changes and transformation in the institutional organisation of the Australian
architecture profession occurred in 2014. There were attempts in some states to deregulate the
profession, the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) continued to push for a
system of national registration, and a major review of the National Competency Standards in
Architecture (NCSA) was completed. It is therefore timely to consider the history of the
incorporation of the AACA in 1974 and its role in the development and evolution of the NCSA...

Australasian schools of architecture

There are 18 schools of architecture in Australia offering architecture programs recognised by the Institute and accredited by the relevant state/territory architecture board. Here is a contact list for the Heads of Australasian Architecture Schools/Programs.

Except where stated otherwise, the following Australasian schools of architecture offer courses recognised and accredited by the Australian Institute of Architects, the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) and the relevant state/territory architects registration boards. The AACA maintains an official listing of accredited architecture courses in Australia.  When selecting a specific program, potential students should check the AACA listing as institutions may offer more than one program, some of which may not be accredited.

The Association of Architecture Schools of Australasia (AASA) provides leadership and advocacy for architectural education in the Australasian region.

Charles Darwin University, School of Creative Arts & Humanities – the Bachelor of Design program at Charles Darwin University is three years in duration. A course minimum of 10 semesters is fundamental to obtaining full accreditation. Students graduating from the Bachelor of Design (specialisation in architecture) with a credit average can directly enter the 4th year of Deakin University's Master of Architecture program.

National Education Committee

The Institute’s National Education Committee (NEC) is made up of Institute members from all states and territories who are practicing architects and academic staff. A representative from the  Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) and the Emerging Architects and Graduates Network (EmAGN) also serve on NEC. The committee focuses on all aspects of undergraduate architectural education, including education and research policies, recognition and accreditation of architecture courses, programs of architecture and students, national and international bodies concerned with architectural education, architecture and children, and careers information. Tertiary Education of Architects Policy

The Institute believes that architectural education is the essential foundation of the profession and is committed to developing and maintaining education standards through its Tertiary Education of Architects Policy and Standards for Programs in Architecture.

Research Policy & Understanding Research Excellence in Architecture

The Institute’s Research Policy and Understanding Research Excellence in Architecture promote and support collaborative research that links the profession, the construction industry, universities and government.
